Penalty woe for Hall as Colts bow out

Somerset Trojans 2St. George's Colts 2(Trojans win 6-5 on penalties)St. George's missed out on reaching the Player Development League (PDL) Christmas Tournament final after losing in a penalty shootout to ten man Somerset Trojans at BAA Field. It took 12 penalties to seperate the two sides, who were locked at 2-2 after normal time, with Colts' substitute goalkeeper Freddy Hall missing the decisive kick to hand Trojans victory. It was a tough way for Colts to bow out of the inaugural competition with both teams playing some attractive football in last night's semi-final.Jahi Simmons, who was sent off late for a reckless challenge, gave Trojans the lead after 12 minutes, but Colts' Jahron Dickinson equalised on the half hour mark.An own-goal by Ajahlea Dill restored Trojans' lead on 39 minutes, but early in the second-half Dickinson struck again with a penalty after Trojans' keeper Shaquille Bean had brought down Wolde Jones. Both teams continued to create chances with Hall, who came on especially for the penalty shootout, making two fine saves later on to keep Colts in the game.Losing in a penalty shootout is often described as the worst way to lose a game, and Trojans coach Dennis Brown said he felt for his opposite number Richard Todd.“It's a sad way to decide a game in many ways,” said Brown. “I thought both teams played some good stuff and it's tough for Richard Todd who is doing a great job at St. George's.”Dandy Town 3Devonshire Colts 3(Colts win 4-2 on penalties)Devonshire Colts came back from 3-1 down to beat Dandy Town in a penalty shootout at BAA Field last night to reach the PDL Tournament final.Colts scorers were Ian Coke, Kyle Jones and Lozendro Symonds (pen), while Fabian Frankson and Shannon Burchall (2) were on target for Hornets. The PDL Christmas Tournament final will be played at Somerset Cricket Club tomorrow at 12.30pm.
