Island businessmen set out to spread the word
Bermuda will be going as far a-field as Egypt to attract e-commerce business to the Island.
A small contingent of Bermuda businesses will preach the value of operating from the Island, in a road show that will take them to Tel Aviv, Dublin and London in November.
The Bermuda Stock Exchange (BSX), the Island's largest law firm, Appleby, Spurling & Kempe (AS&K) together with telecommunications provider TeleBermuda and investment bankers Voyager Financial Services, will team up for the project entitled `B2B. Bermuda'.
The team will hold a half-day seminar in each of the cities.
"We want to reach the mind and management behind e-com, high-tech and bio-tech start-ups,'' said BSX CEO William Woods.
"We want to attract those businesses with a solid business plan that want to expand globally.'' AS&K earlier this year became the first local law firm that allowed online incorporation of offshore companies.
"Bermuda offers the regulatory legal and business environments necessary for such companies to thrive and prosper,'' said Warren Cabral AS&K partner and practice leader of the firm's intellectual property and information technology department.
"Bermuda is at the forefront of the Internet revolution, having introduced legislation last year -- the Electronic Transaction Act 1999 -- that gives legal substance to electronic data and transactions negotiated over the Internet.
Mr. Cabral also noted that Bermuda is the first government to institute a Ministry for e-commerce and that there are no taxes on capital gains or income.
TeleBermuda will boast fast connection speeds and digital capability, during the seminars, proving to attendees that the Island has a sophisticated telecommunications infrastructure.
"We are working to make Bermuda the hub of international e-commerce and telecommunication services, '' said James Fitzgerald TBI's general manager.
The team touting the `Bermuda Advantage' will hold seminars on November 23 in Tel Aviv at the Intercontinental Hotel, on November 27 at Dublin's Hilton Hotel and on November 29 in London at the Knightsbridge Hilton.
