The Bermuda Bonsai Club, which formally became a club in June after several months of informal meetings, launched their first annual exhibition last night.

The Bonsai is an art form developed by the Chinese, but perfected by the Japanese thousands of years ago.

However, the art of growing miniature trees has only been practised in Bermuda for a few years.

Norville Wright, president of the Bermuda Bonsai Club, said the exhibition will showcase the work of the club's 15 regular members. It takes years of grooming before a miniature tree can be called a Bonsai. The free show continues today and tomorrow in the Bermuda Society of Arts Gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Anyone interested in joining the club will be able to pick up an application at the exhibition.
