Arch Re has assisted the Bermuda Cricket Board in awarding educational scholarships to three elite cricketers in its high-performance programme.

The three players are Chare Smith, of Bristol College, Nzari Paynter, of Loughborough University and Jordan Smith, of Cardiff University, and each will receive $833 towards the cost of tuition for the 2017-18 academic year.

Chare Smith, a fast bowler for Warwick, and all-rounder Paynter, of St George’s, were both selected to play for the ICC Americas team in the West Indies Under-19 50 overs Tournament in St Vincent in 2016. Smith and Jordan Smith, a spinner with Bailey’s Bay, were both members of the Bermuda team which went on a High Performance tour of Canada in August.

Paynter was vice-captain of the Bermuda Under-19 team during their World Cup Qualifier Americas Region matches in Canada in July.

The BCB Scholarship Selection Committee, led by High Performance chairman Gershon Gibbons, considered the following when selecting the players:

•Future potential playing contribution

•Current and past academic performance

•Ability to develop cricketing skills whilst in education

• Behavioural history and standards

•Previous volunteer commitments to BCB programmes

•Financial need.
