Bermuda Insurance Diploma (BID) Courses
Property and Liability Insurance Principles - INS 21 This course covers the basic principles of insurance and gives an overview of the nature and operation of the insurance business and an introduction to insurance contracts. Choice of 2 class times: INS21/1: Thursday12.30 - 2 p.m. Course starts February 16. INS2:Thursday5.15 - 6.45 p.m. Course starts February 23.
Personal Insurance - INS 22
This course gives an overview of personal insurance, including property, liability and personal risk management. Topics include: auto; home; and life and health insurance. An introduction to financial planning is also included. Tuesday 12.30-2 p.m. Course starts February 14.
Commercial Insurance - INS 23
This course explores commercial coverage including property, business income, inland and ocean marine, crime, boiler and machinery, general liability, auto, workers compensation, farm and business owners, as well as miscellaneous liability coverages, surety, and excess and surplus lines. Wednesday 12.30 - 2 p.m. Course starts February 8.
The Bermuda Insurance Market - BIM
The course covers the development of the Bermuda Insurance Market; Bermuda's Legal System and Legislation; Captives; Reinsurance and Alternate Risk/Finance Transfer. Prerequisite: INS21 (This prerequisite may be waived for graduate students or those with professional designations.) Monday 12:30 - 2:00 p.m. Course starts February 13, 2006
Fee includes Text Book and Exam fee. BIM Exam to be held June 16, from 9 - 12 noon.

Workers Compensation and managing bodily injury claims AIC 34 This course covers the workers' compensation system, compensability, statutory benefits, bodily injury claim management, injury and treatment evaluation, impairment and disability, rehabilitation, low back injury claims, medical investigation and assessing treatments and disability. Tuesday 12.30-2 p.m. Course starts February 14.
Reinsurance Principles and Practices ARE 144
The course covers introduction to reinsurance, types of reinsurance and reinsurance programme design, the reinsurance placement process, common reinsurance treaty clauses, quota share treaties, surplus share treaties, property per risk excess of loss treaties, casualty excess of loss treaties, catastrophe reinsurance, aggregate excess of loss treaties, resinsurance audits, reinsurance regulation, reinsurance aspects of the NAIC Annual Statement and reserves. Tuesday 5.30-7 p.m. Course starts February 7.
Risk Financing ARM 56
The course covers insurance as a risk financing technique; reinsurance and self insurance, retrospective rating plans and captive insurance companies, finite and integrated risk insurance plans, capital market products, forecasting accidental losses, accounting and income tax aspects, claim administration and allocating risk management costs. Tuesday 5.30 - 7:00 p.m. Course starts February 7.
CPCU COURSES
Foundations of Risk Management, Insurance and Professionalism - CPCU 510 The course covers the foundations of Risk Management and Insurance. Topics include: code of ethics, risk and related concepts, evaluating and managing risk, risk management, how insurance works as a business, risk financing alternatives, fundamental insurance assumptions, insurance contracts, insurable interests, reading a policy, common policy provisions, insured events, amounts payable, and external factors affecting insurance contracts.

Commercial Property Management & Insurance - CPCU 551
This course surveys commercial property loss exposures and the insurance coverage and non-insurance techniques used to manage them.
Topics include: property loss exposures, building and personal property coverage, causes of loss forms, flood, earthquake and specialty forms, business income, inland marine and ocean cargo, crime, equipment breakdown, business owners and farm owners and surety bonds. Monday 12.30-2 p.m. Course starts February 6.
Financial Services Institutions - CPCU 560
Topics include: Financial Markets, Federal Reserve, Money Markets, Bond Markets, Stock Markets, Derivative Securities, Banks, Finance Companies, Insurance Companies, Securities Firms & Investment Banks, Mutual Funds, Pension Funds and Risks Incurred by Financial Institutions. Thursday 12.30-2 p.m. course starts February 2.
Finance for the Insurance Professional
This two-day course, which is being run in association with the Chartered Insurance Institute and Delta Omega Consultancy, aims to improve understanding of the financial dynamics of insurance and to enable learners to 'read' the accounts of any company using fourteen key financial ratios.
Two distinct modules cover these aims, and both are prefaced by an 'Introduction to Accounts' module which ensures that learning is built on solid foundations. Throughout there is an emphasis on the practical application of new-found knowledge, and exercises and group-work are used extensively to reinforce learning. Monday February 6 and February 7 (2 full days) and February 9 and February 10.

Tyco International Limited First Quarter Results
February 2. Tyco will report first quarter results before trading begins on Thursday and the company will hold a conference call for investors at 8.30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
