Two late second-half goals by Chris Caisey and substitute Demeitre Daniels prevented this mostly dull Friendship Trophy clash at Wellington Oval yesterday from going into extra time.

Cougars’ Chris Caisey collected a defence-splitting cross from Kwame Steede to break the scoreless deadlock after 78 minutes and then Daniels put the result out of reach of Colts when he collected a goal kick from goalkeeper Ricardo Brangman deep into Colts’ half and coolly lobbed the ball over the head of advancing goalkeeper Greg Rose and into the empty goal.

Cougars were well-deserved victors though they didn’t play particularly well.

Their opponents Colts accomplished very little up front with strikers Kyle Jones and McKree Pace seeing very little of the ball throughout the game.

The first half was relatively quiet with chances few and far in between. After 32 minutes Rose advanced off his line to block Caisey and then Brangman at the opposite end turned away a blistering drive from Eurique Wilkin.

Minutes later the usually efficient Kwame Steede got a through ball only to put his finishing touch poorly wide of the post from near the penalty spot.

After Steede failed to give Cougars the deserved lead Tumani Steede followed up by putting his angled shot just wide of the post from 14 yards.

The second half saw Cougars slowly take command of play with Tumani Steede watching in agony as his angled shot from close rang was blocked by goalkeeper Rose.

Then the Cougars striker had his shot blocked by Wilkin as he stood on the goal line. Colts rarely hinted they had any imagination of scoring while their defence did well to block advances by Cougars.

After 75 minutes Mark Smith had his wicked drive from 15 yards pushed over by Rose in the Colts goal then Domico Coddington headed a cross over from close in.

After these misses Cougars finally found the target through Caisey and Daniels with Coddington sending a 25-yard rocket just over the bar in between.
