Breaking News: Jamaican George Lynch named as murdered man

Jamaican George Lynch was today named as the man gunned down outside a Midland Heights Crescent home Wednesday night.

Police said Mr. Lynch, who worked in housekeeping at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH), was not on their radar and did not have a known gang affiliation.

Acting Superintendent Nicholas Pedro said witnesses have already told Police two men, wearing dark visors concealing their faces, road up to the home shortly before 10.27 p.m. One shot was fired, which stuck Mr. Lynch in his chest, while he stood in the yard with two other individuals. He was rushed to the KEMH in a private car but pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m.

Mr. Lynch’s murder occurred as he stood outside the same home where Temasgan Furbert was viciously attacked 15 months ago.

Last night’s shooting occurred hours after three men were found guilty of that attack, and another man was found innocent.

Police arrested Detroy Smith and Allan Douglas — who were cleared today for the attack on Mr. Furbert — in connection with the murder moments after they left Supreme Court. [See court story].

At the time of the attack Mr. Furbert was living at the property with his brother-in-law Philmore Phinn and sister Merate Phinn, both of whom gave evidence at the trial. Police say Mr. Lynch had nothing to do with the trial. The Royal Gazette understands that Mr. Lynch was visiting Mr. Phinn at the time of his murder.

But Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva cautioned against assuming that Mr. Phinn was the intended target.

“I would really caution against making the giant leap that that in fact was the target of last night’s shootings,” said Mr. DeSilva.
