Initiatives to address diabetes

The 2006 National Health Promotion Strategy, Well Bermuda, listed the reduction of the prevalence of diabetes and associated complications among the primary health promotion goals for the country. The Well Bermuda diabetes objectives are to:
1. Increase the number of adults with diabetes whose condition has been diagnosed.
2. Reduce the overall rate of development of diabetes that is clinically diagnosed.
3. Increase the proportion of adults who have had a blood sugar screening in the previous two years.
4. Increase the number of persons with diabetes referred for diabetes education.
5. Increase the number of women with gestational diabetes referred for diabetes education.
6. Establish a register of persons with diabetes.
