Peanuts vs potato chips
Both cocktail peanuts and regular potato chips are high in salt and high in fat but most likely potato chips are worse than peanuts.Clinical dietitian at KEMH, Hannah Simpson said portions are the determining factor in which is worse. She said a small amount of peanuts is better than a small amount of potato chips, because of the fibre and other nutrients contained in peanuts.“But they are much higher in fat, so if you are going to have handfuls it would be better to eat the chips,” she said.Potato chips are more heavily processed than cocktail peanuts according to health coach Preston Ephraim II, and therefore are worse for you.“It would be much better to have unsalted peanuts. Roasting peanuts yourself is a healthy option or slice potatoes yourself, sprinkle with coconut or olive oil, bake at 450 degrees and season with a bit of rock salt. This will give you the best taste and is far better for you,” he said.Ms Simpson said if time is an issue, unsalted walnuts are a healthy option as they provide you with some omega three fatty acids.
