How much sleep do children need?

Most people seem to think eight hours of sleep is what adults and school-aged children should get but according to sleep researchers children need more.How much more? According to the Millpond Children’s Sleep Clinic in Britain, which is one of the world’s leading sleep centres for children, the amount of sleep required varies with age.The British National Health Service has also adopted their recommendations.It’s important to note that naps and catching up on sleep during weekends is not considered proper sleep according to the experts.They say children should have the following number of hours of sleep every night:5 yearsŸ night time: 11 hours6 yearsŸ night time: 10.75 hours7 yearsŸ night time: 10.5 hours8 yearsŸ night time: 10.25 hours9 yearsŸ night time: ten hoursTen yearsŸ night time: 9.75 hours11 yearsŸ night time: 9.5 hours12 yearsŸ night time: 9.25 hours13 yearsŸ night time: 9.25 hours14 yearsŸ night time: 9 hours15 yearsŸ night time: 8.75 hours16 yearsŸ night time: 8.5 hours
