The Bermuda Heart Foundation is offering females an opportunity to recharge their batteries this weekend. The charity has organised a series of events aimed at helping reduce the negative impact stress has on one’s heart.Talks and activities will be held throughout the weekend under the title, Give Me Strength.“The women of Bermuda are the leaders of our community,” said BHF executive director Simone Barton.“As we progress through these times of economic uncertainty and difficulty where do we go to rebuild our strength?“This empowerment weekend helps us to do that. It’s a time to remember who you are and how you can move forward effectively.”US-based executive life coach Kate Larson will give the keynote speech.Explained Ms Barton: “She looks at how you coach yourself into wellness; how you can live the life you want to live. She deals with the mental conversation we need to have with ourselves that can impel us or drive us forward.“I’ve seen her myself and was very impressed. In fact my staff begged me to bring her to Bermuda to share this information.”Ms Larson will also give a private coaching session to women in healthcare while she is here. The Give Me Strength weekend takes place at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. It begins with Ms Larson’s talk on Friday night and is followed on Saturday, with a line-up of one-hour breakaway sessions on a variety of topics from nutrition, to aromatherapy, to self-defence and getting out of a toxic relationship. There will be vendor booths, health screenings, and a big Zumba workout session on Saturday afternoon.“We are aiming for this to be the biggest Zumba gathering ever in Bermuda,” said Ms Barton. “At 1.15 we’ll have a session teaching those who don’t know, how to do Zumba, then at 2.30 we’ll have a real Zumba party workout.”The cost of the Give Me Strength weekend of events is $50. The Zumba party is an additional $20.Women attending the weekend can stay at the hotel for a special rate of $149 a night.“If you share the room with a girlfriend you’ll spend even less and have a real retreat,” said Ms Barton. For more information telephone 232-7812.Visit www.royalgazette.com for the full schedule of Saturday’s events.
