Friday is World Water Day

How is water good for the body?We all know we need to drink water, but just how does it help the body?The Wellness Committee of the Bermuda Hospitals Board has released a fact sheet as part of celebrations to mark World Water Day on Friday.Here are some reasons it says you should drink water:1. Drinking water and staying hydrated helps you think more clearly and also helps keep your memory sharp.When you are well-hydrated you feel better and are more motivated.2. Drinking water helps keep your mouth clean and your lips moist. When you are dehydrated your mouth and throat can feel dry being dehydrated can cause bad breath.3. When you are dehydrated your heart has to work harder because of the lower blood volume.When people are dehydrated they complain of feeling exhausted when walking up stairs or doing anything strenuous.4. It is important that you release heat from your body, especially during and after exercise. When you are dehydrated the blood vessels find it more difficult to widen and release heat and you stay hotter longer.It is really important to drink enough water during the hot summer months when you lose water from perspiration.It’s also important to make sure you drink enough water when exercising.5. When you are well hydrated, the body is more efficient at getting rid of waste and toxins. A well-hydrated body performs much better than a dehydrated body.6. Skin is less elastic when you are dehydrated.7. Your kidneys need to be well-hydrated to perform well and remove wastes from your body.
