Awesome is the one and only word we need to sum up the grand celebration at Hamilton City Hall honouring Calvert (Kelly) Zuill, the religious radio personality for his 50 years as promoter of Gospel Music on ZFB Radio. It was intended to be a ‘A Formal Night of Gospel,’ under the distinguished patronage of the Deputy Mayor of Hamilton Mr Donal Smith, and wife Zita Smith. However, it actually developed into a ‘two-day event.’Starting with an early Saturday evening formal VIP Reception laid-on by the Smiths, events shifted to the Earl Cameron Theatre. There, the celebration exploded into a presentation, live, and in person of the renown gospel artists, not normally seen, but whose recordings are otherwise heard, requested, and played over, and over, in Kelly’s early morning programmes. Those artists, lively perpersonalities, effortlessly excelled each other, lauding Kelly to the high heavens, in song, dance, spirited sermonettes, and poetry.Kelly appeared to be ‘on top of the world’ as he was deservedly celebrated, past midnight, and into the Sunday morning hours.Since he has been elevated ‘by the help of God,’ as he testified, and sustained by his legions of admiring fans, all ‘Mr Gospel’ has to do now, just like the ‘royals’ is enjoy his Golden Anniversary Year. The onstage programme was given a great pitch by Kevin Santucci, the master of ceremonies, backed up by other FM105 personalities Shay Dawn Burgess, and Sandra Nepier.First up were Mt Zion AME Church Male Voice Choir with an unmatchable, mountain-top performance. They were figuratively joined by soloist Myrna Outerbridge; Seventh-day Adventist Church Inspirational Choir, and Kion Simmons. Also The Five Keys; Bro Keith Lee; Bro Neville Zuill, each of them proceeding with encore commanding renditions.New pinnacles were reached following the intermission that brought on the evening’s special artist, fresh from New York, Jamaican-born Dennis Chin, and from Atlanta ‘Palm 3’ with a captivating ‘miming’ act that was accentuated by their moving personal testimonies.Dennis Chin was a variety show in himself, stomping on stage, and through the audience, singing, and sermoizing, with joke-filled content. The celebration was capped by the dramatic singing, and powerful personal testimony, of Bermuda’s Ms Rickeesha Binns. It was well into Sunday morning when MC Santucci brought on Deputy Mayor Smith to leadoff the presentations. With a few well chosen words he gifted Kelly with a beautiful crystal duplication of a mounted microphone with a suitable inscription. General Manager of Bermuda Broadcasting Company, Rick Richardson gifted Kelly through Denna Masters, accompanied by on-air personalities, Leola Stovell, Darlene Ming and Gina Spence. And as a great gesture, Kelly closed the celebration with presentation to his ninety-year old plus mother, Mrs Dulcie Zuill with a bouquet of flowers.

Seated in the Earl Cameron Theatre at City Hall, Kelly with his God-daughter Lori Talbot Woolf, who was his escort for the evening. On his right are Mr. and Mrs. Victor Webb. He is vice-president of the Wall Street Media relations firm that bears his name.
