CASE SIX: GEORGE LYNCHAge: 40Gang affiliation: Police say Mr Lynch had no involvement at all with any gang.Date of murder: Wednesday, May 5, 2010.Time: Just before 10.30pm.Location: Outside 21 Midland Heights Crescent, Hamilton Parish.What happened: The victim was standing outside the home of his friend and neighbour Philmore Phinn with another man when two masked gunmen rode up on a motorcycle and shot Mr Lynch dead.They did a U-turn and left the Crescent the same way they came in, via the turning nearest to North Shore Road on My Lord’s Bay Road. Mr Lynch was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by Mr Phinn in a car, where he was declared dead.Victim died from: A gunshot wound to the chest.Other casualties: None.Weapon: A .45 calibre gun which has been recovered by police.Description of suspects: Two men on a Honda Wave motorcycle. Both wore dark or black clothing. The rider had on a black Nolan crash helmet with a black visor covering his face. The pillion passenger was wearing a round black crash helmet, also with a black visor covering his face.Alleged motive: Philmore Phinn had given evidence as a prosecution witness just days before the murder in a Supreme Court case against several men accused of the mob attack of his brother-in-law Temasgan Furbert.Police believe Mr Lynch was not the intended target of the gunmen and was an innocent victim who had no involvement in Bermuda’s gang underworld.Retaliatory attacks: None reported.Arrests: Two men cleared by a jury of the mob attack Detroy Smith Jr and Allan Douglas Jr were arrested on suspicion of murder as they left Supreme Court on May 6. They were bailed pending further inquiries.
