Bermuda bounce back

Bermuda finished runner-ups in their badminton division after ending group play with a record of two wins and one loss at the BHS gymnasium.In a group consisting of Guernsey, who lead the section, as well as Greenland and Gibraltar, Bermuda rebounded well from their opening loss to eventual group winners Guernsey.Michael Palmer lost to Paul Le Tocq 21-15, 16-21, 21-10, while Emma Calow lost her singles match, 21-9, 21-11, to Elena Johnson.In doubles action, Rick Dorush and Danial Hughes lost 22-20, 21-15 to Stuart Hardy and Daniel Penney in the men’s section, and Solveigo Cailliere and Calow lost to Anika Johnson and Gayle Lloyd 21-14, 21-15.The mixed doubles went the way as the previous games, with Hughes and Dianne Blais losing 21-12, 21-10 to Sarah Garbutt and Kevin Le Moigne.Bermuda would bounce back with a 3-2 win over Greenland, with Rohan Pai winning the first match 12-21, 21-17, 21-14, followed by Calow’s 20-22, 21-15, 21-14 win over Sara Lindskov Jacobsen.Pai and Palmer then teamed up in the men’s doubles to win 21-14, 21-15, over Angutimmarik Geisler and Jens Frederik Nielsen.With the tie wrapped up, Blais and Cailliere lost 21-14, 21-17 to Jacobsen and Aviaaja Geisler, while Hughes and Rowena Cespedes lost to Nielsen and Mike Kongstad 21-7, 21-10.In the final group games, the local contingent beat Gibraltar 4-1, with Palmer beating Kasper Thy Jessen 21-16, 21-11.Calow continued her hot streak, beating Alison Avellano 21-14, 21-8, and Palmer and Pai ended the series as a contest with a 21-17, 21-16 win over Jessen and Ivan de Haro in men’s doubles action.Calow again teamed up with Cailliere to beat Avellano and Sevelanne Gordon 21-14, 21-19, while Gibraltar got on the board with a mixed doubles win over Hughes and Blais 23-21, 21-19.Guernsey top Group A after two more wins over Gibraltar (5-0) and Greenland (3-2), while Greenland beat Gibraltar (5-0) to earn third spot in the group.Isle of Man sit atop Group B with three wins, while Gotland and Faroe Islands are both sitting on two victories.Isle of Man beat Falkland Islands (5-0), Faroe Islands (3-2), and Gotland (4-1) to get their points.Gotland got wins over Isle of Wight (5-0), Falkland Islands (5-0), before losing to Isle of Man, while Faroe Islands beat Falkland Islands (5-0), Isle of Wight (4-1) before losing to the current leaders.Isle of Wight beat Falkland Islands (5-0) to got their first of the competition.
