Squash team off to flying start

Bermuda’s squash players got off to a flying start in the team event that began today, beating Jersey 3-1 and getting past Gibraltar5-0.Against Jersey, Micah Franklin lost to Nick Taylor 7-11, 5-11, 2-11 but Patrick Foster beat Michael Hopkins 11-9, 11-3, 11-2.Nick Kyme then beat Scott Gauthier 11-4, 2-10, 11-7 but Jersey were on even terms after Susie Lacey lost to Sarah Taylor 5-11, 5-11, 5-11.However, Rachel Barnes won by default .Earlier, the local team thrashed Gibraltar, all five of the Bermuda players reeling off relatively comfortable victories.Professional Franklin beat Anthony Brindle 3-1, although he lost the first game 6-11.He bounced back to take the match with three wins, 11-9,11-5 and 11-9.Former pro Kyme took out Christian Navas 3-0 (11-5, 11-8, 11-9) and Noah Browne defeated Stephen Schacaluga 3-0 (11-3, 11-8, 11-6).Laura Robinson eased past Gail Attias 3-0 (11-1, 11-3, 11-3) and Lacey completed the whitewash with a 3-0 win over Zoie Smith (11-5, 11-2, 11-3.)In other matches, Cayman Islands beat Guernsey 5-0, Jersey defeated Shetland Islands 4-1 and Guernsey got past Shetland Islands 4-1.
