Steinhoff first among local bikers

Brian Steinhoff finished 14th in the Mountain Biking cross-country event at Ferry Reach as EL Hihioui Kamal from Menorca won gold.Kamal won in a time of one hour, 20 minutes, 50.22 seconds, to add to his gold medal in the criterium on Monday.Elliot Baxter of Isle of Man grabbed silver in a time of one hour, 23 minutes, 9.95 seconds, while Faroe Islands’ Helgi Winther Olsen (1:24:43.35) rounded out the podium positions.Steinhoff was the first local to finish in a time of one hour, 40 minutes, 11.61 seconds, followed by Mark Hatherley (1:47:17.60) who finished in 18th.“The competition for the past few days has really been intense, with a lot of high quality riders out on the course competing,” said Steinhoff.“This gives us a good idea of the level of competition for the next Games, but it was fun to be out here representing Bermuda.”Che’quan Richardson finished 21st, Deshi Smith crossed the line in 22nd, with Philip Trussell one spot behind him.In the team competition, Guernsey, who had riders finished fourth, fifth, sixth, and ninth won the team gold medal, with Kamal’s Menorca grabbing the silver.Isle of Man was good enough to claim the bronze medal.
