Fresh TV has great things in store for its young viewers ? from interactive games to a children?s series created by a Bermudian.

Yesterday the Fresh TV production team introduced ?Hugo?, an interactive game that can be played by children from their homes.

The games help children learn about important social issues ? including staying away from drugs and violence.

The Bermuda Junior Library has teamed up with Fresh TV and ?Hugo? to push its literacy campaign.

By quizzing contestants of the Hugo Book Club, Fresh TV?s managing director Elmore Warren believes that children will be encouraged to read quality material geared to their age group.

By using their home phones as keypads, children will become a part of the fun. Many contestants can call in to Fresh but only two can play at a time.

The narrator of the game is Brian Darby.

Tammy Nordquist, the voice of the fun troll, also controls Hugo?s actions from behind the scenes.

Peter Lewis is the voice of Hugo?s pet monkey, Fernando, who helps him along his journey to rescue his friends.

Children are invited to be part of the studio audience at Fresh for the 13-week series that airs on Saturday mornings.

Fresh TV will also launch a cartoon series, ?Kiesha the Mermaid?, created by Bermudian Daron Lowe.

Mr. Lowe said he was inspired by his children to create a cartoon with good, wholesome content.

?Most of the characters that I create are inspired by my children,? he said.

Behind the voice of Kiesha is Patience Lowe, Mr. Lowe?s second daughter. ?Patience is a fun-loving go-getter and embraces everything that she does wholeheartedly ... just like Kiesha!?

The series? aim is to take children on a journey of discovery while instilling virtues like cooperation and tolerance.

Mr. Lowe is a full-time pastor of youth at Radnor Road Christian Fellowship and is also a graphic designer.

?Kiesha ... is my dream come true,? said Mr. Lowe, who hopes that his cartoon will soon become a Bermudian favourite.

Fresh TV will run the pilot episode of ?Kiesha the Mermaid? on Saturday, the same day Hugo will be launched.
