on Front Street yesterday while Melanie Claude, as expected, took women's honours.

In both instances the husband and wife pair of Earl and Jeana Godfrey had to settle for second place, with Simons winning the open category in a close final with Godfrey. The men competed over four heats, the semi-final and then final.

Claude held off the challenge of Jeana Godfrey over two heats and the final.

Two of the most exciting races of the day were in Category Two and Three whose riders competed together over 60 minutes plus one lap. An initial break saw Steve Millington, Steve Sterritt and Jonathan Herring lead the way before the two Steves broke clear and Millington sprinted to Category Two victory. Jason Krupp was third.

In Category Three within the same race, Herring was the winner while Julia Hawley was second and Jay Simons third.

Yolanda Smith beat Robin Dickinson among the junior women while the junior men, the largest category, saw Jean Nicolas Bertrand edge out Justin Simmons.

The pee wee race (over six) attracted some 60 entries for their one lap event while nearly 30 competed in the five and under race. No winners were declared with all the youngsters receiving awards.
