Website tips safe toys

Toy recalls: As of late, they are practically an everyday occurrence. They can also be a major concern - one that's time-consuming to address and even costly if a family has a slew of playthings that have recently landed on product-recall lists.

Considering the sheer number of toy recalls making news headlines today, many are concerned and confused about shopping for children this holiday season.

That's why safety-conscious parents Kerry and Andrew Menger have created NMCtoys.com (www.nmctoys.com), a new retail website devoted to toys considered "safe" by United States standards and not made in China. Launched this month, the site is up and running just in time for December gift-giving.

"The idea for NMCtoys.com came to me in August, just after my own daughter turned four and a long list of toys started being recalled," says Kerry Menger. "When we went to a big-box retailer to replace the toys we tossed out, we specifically looked for quality toys not 'Made in China.'

In short, it was an impossible task. I realized how a website filling this marketplace 'toy void' would be an excellent, helpful idea — particularly in time for the holidays."

NMCtoys.com offers many kinds of toys, including those that are educational as well as just for fun.

The site also sells children's room decor, ornaments and more, and is giving a 10-percent online-purchase discount to anyone entering the coupon code NMCHOLIDAY. In addition, through NMCtoys.com, parents can read toy-safety tips and find government and consumer website links listing product recalls.

Finally, NMCtoys.com shoppers can donate to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's Toys for Tots program through a special "donate a toy" link. NMCtoys.com will match donations at 5 percent of the value of every donated gift made to Toys for Tots.

"In partnering with Toys for Tots, we are helping to ensure that children in need are receiving safe, high-quality toys," Menger says. "We offer a wide range of price points and carry many high-profile brands and products, such as Holgate, Bajo, Elves and Angels kitchens, NIC, Berenguer Dolls and Maple Landmark."

Of note, some products must be ordered 21 days in advance. Whether buying a holiday gift for a child you know, or contributing to the Toys for Tots Program, NMCtoys.com recommends placing orders soon.

About NMCtoys.com: As the parents of two small children, Kerry and Andrew Menger founded NMCtoys.com, a retail website providing safe, high-quality toys. As part of their mission, they only carry children's toys that are not "Made in China."

Many of the toys sold at NMCtoys.com have received awards, and all meet or exceed U.S. safety standards. NMCtoys.com pledges that its toys will last - and are designed to foster your child's imagination, improve motor skills and bolster self-esteem.
