Art installations being planned to brighten Hamilton
Mosaic art installations are being sought for Washington Lane, the City of Hamilton has announced.
Local artists have been asked for proposals on their design and execution.
A spokeswoman said it was part of plans to brighten the city with “public art installations that connect visitors and the local community to Bermuda art and culture”.
Selected mosaics will be installed in Washington Lane, in a series of nine metal trays to be provided.
The designs must “enhance the surrounding environment and inspire engagement with the local community and visitors to the island”.
Artists may submit more than one proposal and submissions can be from an individual or a group or association, such as a school or art organisation.
Two other plans are for a mural to cover the side of the former Great Things building on East Broadway, and a large “Bermuda” marquee sign.
Entries will be chosen based on key criteria, including creativity, practicality, aesthetics, and social responsibility
Proposals depicting commercial advertisement, or political or religious themes will not be eligible. The design must be appropriate for all ages.
The deadline for submissions is June 30, with contracts to be awarded on July 12.
