A footbridge that will extend the Railway Trail over Flatts Inlet is on track to be completed by its October target, a spokesman for Friends of the Railway Trail said yesterday.

Tucker Murphy added that he was also confident the bridge would weather the rest of hurricane season.

He said: “It’s always a concern and hurricanes are always something you keep track of, but we do try and lock everything in place as soon as we install it. You also have to be a little bit lucky.”

Dr Murphy confirmed yesterday that the northern span of the Flatts footbridge had been installed on Monday – about six weeks after construction started up again.

He reminded the public that the footbridge was still a construction site and insisted that passers-by stay away from the bridge until it is completed.
