Young Bermudians to attend Rotary empowerment retreat

Two dozen young women are due to attend a special empowerment retreat with an international component.

The teenagers, all members of the Rotary Interact clubs of Bermuda, will attend the Empowerment Girls Conference today from 9am to 1.30pm at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, where they will hear motivational speeches from a list of high-powered female executives from a range of professions.

Pembroke Rotary Director Jason Taylor said: “Guest speakers include Wespeak members Laura Taylor, president of Nephila Capital, and Kendaree Burgess, CEO Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, along with Bermuda Tourism Authority’s director of global sales and business development Hazel Clarke and Tricha Pitcher, head aquarist of the BAMZ.”

Hamilton Rotary Director, Cathy Bassett, added: “The Empowerment Conference is part of the Rotary District 7230 United Nations event and Bermuda fits within the district.

“As such the added attraction for the Interact members is a special invite to view the live stream of the programme directly from the UN on Friday”.

The theme for the UN Conference is “Empowering Girls” with delegates addressing the question, “How do we create a safe and more resilient world for girls as we reopen societies amid the impact of Covid?”
