One love! School raises $4,500 in solidarity with Jamaica
Saltus pupils and staff have pitched in to support communities in Jamaica devastated by Hurricane Melissa, with $4,500 raised.
All proceeds from the One Love: Jamaica Relief grub day held on November 10 will go to the Jamaican Association of Bermuda’s relief and rebuilding efforts.
Students and staff showed their solidarity by sporting the black, green and gold of the Jamaican flag and contributed a minimum donation of $2.
Saltus has also partnered with the Jamaican Association to collect much needed supplies, including nonperishable food items, baby formula, toiletries, first-aid kits, cleaning supplies and emergency shelter materials such as tarps, tents and solar lanterns.
Collection points across the school remained open throughout the week.
Nadia Robinson, the deputy head of school, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students, staff and families for coming together with compassion and purpose.
“This initiative reflects the heart of our school community — caring, global-minded and always ready to help those in need.”
The school thanked everyone who contributed, adding: “Every donation, large or small, has helped bring comfort, hope and meaningful assistance to those rebuilding their lives in Jamaica.”
