Amy Shillingford, director of Bermuda communications for the Ace Group, shows off an art exhibition about the Ace Group's 25 years in business.

A new art exhibit shows how the Ace Group has gone from strength to strength in the 25 years since it was first incorporated. The Ace Group opened the exhibition, ‘25 Years of Insuring Progress', to highlight the history of the company. The 13-panel exhibition showcases the Ace Group's accomplishments since then.Peter Woolcock cartoons, various photographs, news articles and annual reports relating to the past 25 years are on display. Also on show is the New York Stock Exchange certificate AceE received on becoming a public company in 1993.A significant period marked in the exhibition is when Ace acquired the global property and casualty business of CIGNA Corporation for $3.45 billion in 1999. It made Ace one of only a handful of international property and casualty insurance companies. AceE also inherited the rich history of the pioneering Insurance Company of North America (INA) with the acquisition INA wrote its first policy in 1792.“This exhibition has been of particular interest to our employees,” said Amy Shillingford, director of Bermuda communications for The Ace Group. “They have been coming down and reading about the early days of the company. They have been spending quite a time looking at the ‘Our People' picture, taken of our employees when the company celebrated its tenth anniversary.“The exhibition is a rare look back at the achievements of a progressive company. We have retrieved a selection of the permanent collection from our archives and added some unique business memorabilia that we welcome the public to visit as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. As the company was founded in Bermuda, we wanted to include a public element to observe our milestone and to thank the Island for its support over the last quarter of a century.”The Ace Gallery, located in the Ace Building, 17 Woodbourne Avenue, Hamilton, is open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 2pm. Groups should call in advance to book an appointment 295-5200. The exhibition runs through May.
