Chewstick Foundation and Razors and Diapers team up for ‘Brag About Dad’ competition

The Chewstick Foundation and a local fatherhood advocate are teaming up to highlight some of the Island’s best dads with a special competition.Peter Saunders, author and administrator of blog and website ‘Razors and Diapers’, and Chewstick are holding the ‘Brag About Dad’ competition throughout this month. The competition asks children and adults to write in about their wonderful fathers.‘Razors and Diapers’ started as a blog in 2009 and has evolved into a professional online resource portal offering fatherhood-related information, resources, and products for sale.“Razors and Diapers is all about empowering fathers and promoting positive fatherhood,” said Mr Saunders who has one five-year-old son, Dakari. “What better way to celebrate fathers and their role than to have their children brag about them.”He said that sometimes fathers in Bermuda do get a bad rap.“That is not helpful,” he said, “especially with those who are not doing their best as a father. I know there are so many fathers out there who are doing an amazing job with their children, and who only get acknowledged around Father’s Day. Razors and Diapers is committed to doing this everyday.“Even though I’m not a Bermudian, the Bermuda I would love to see is one where all fathers are equipped, inspired, and empowered to be the best Dad they can possibly be.“I am absolutely convinced that achieving this will result in more well-rounded children, stronger families, and a better Bermuda.”Chewstick Administrator, Deidra-Lee Bean said Chewstick was excited to be involved in this project.“We are always happy to assist with celebrating the positive elements of our community and providing as many people as possible the chance to share their stories,” she said. The ‘Brag About Dad’ competition is open to residents ages five and up. Participants can submit their entries as poems; short stories of no more than 1,000 words; musical pieces, art pieces; or videos, no longer than two minutes.Entries can be submitted via e-mail at submissions@chewstick.org, these can be e-mailed web links to videos, or attachments in Microsoft Word format, or jpeg images of works of art. There will be prizes for the winners of each of the three age categories — children ages five to 12, juniors 13 to 19 years old, and adults aged 20 and older.“Fathers also do a great job with their children and want to be acknowledged for their role as a parent,” said Ms Bean. “Dads deserve a lot of credit. So this Father’s Day, let us all celebrate the great things Dad does and is known for.”Contest submissions will be managed by The Chewstick Foundation.
