Victoria Park will be the spot for live cover music from some of the industry’s greatest legends — from Bob Marley and Whitney Houston to Etta James.Starting this Sunday at 3pm, the City of Hamilton will be launching it’s free ‘Summer Sundays’ series. The first Sunday of each month from now until September, local artists in different genres will take the stage to entertain residents and tourists alike from 3pm until 8pm.This month will be a tribute to musical legends; in July the theme will be Rock-n-Roll and gospel music will be highlighted in August.Danilee Trott, the events and projects manager for the City of Hamilton, said the free event caters to people of all ages.“It’s a great time to bring families back together, we have generations from children right up to grandparents at the event. It’s not just for the mature crowd. We feature music for younger generations as well.”There will even be a children’s court, featuring fun castles, face painting, cotton candy and pop corn vendors.People can either bring a picnic dinner along with them or buy food from small stalls around the park. This year for the first time there will also be a Vendor’s Village where local entrepreneurs can sell anything from arts and crafts, to clothing and jewellery items.Ms Trott said they introduce new items to the event in order to better cater to the growing audience.“Every year at the end of the season we do post mortems and surveys and that was a common request to have other vendors selling things so when people are walking around they can have other things to look at and purchase.”This will be the forth year the City of Hamilton has put on the Summer Sundays.Ms Trott said: “I think with the events the City hosts we do it for a few reasons to bring people into the city to see what highlights are available to them.“People come obviously to shop and people come to the city to work and we have people who live in the city, but we like to show the side that the city can be fun and it supports our local entertainment and businesses and whatever we can do to encourage that is why we do it.”The City of Hamilton is open to featuring new artists and vendors at the event. If you want to get on stage or set up a booth e-mail events@cityhall.bm for more information. Those who cannot make it out to the event can listen to a live broadcast on Power 95FM from 4pm until 5pm.www.cityofhamilton.com
