‘This party encompasses the true spirit of Cup Match’

Cup Match season is upon us and party organisers are pulling out all the stops limbo dancers and fire entertainers have been promised to get revellers excited.Cup Match Fever: Island Heat will kick off following the cricket match next Friday at Snorkel Park, starting at 8pm. Organisers are expecting more than 2,000 people to turn up at this year’s event.Rowan Ramotar, of Wild Apache Productions, said they have secured a DJ line-up that’s sure to make this year’s event a showstopper.Featured entertainers will be Champion Squad, a group of Miami-based DJs known for their remixing abilities. They have toured the globe sharing their dance hall and reggae music and played at major events in Italy, Amsterdam, Japan and Costa Rica.Mr Ramotar said it will be the group’s second appearance at the holiday event. “As [some people] can remember these guys tore up Fever last year inside the historic Fort St Catherine.“We also have a high-power local line-up such as DJ Keem (Vibe 103FM), DJ Aztec who is going to give you a high energy soca set, iMega, New Era and Supertone.“These guys are going to give you the best in old and new school soca, reggae, rap, hip hop, top 40 dance hall and fist-pumping techno.“We will have our celebrity host Camilla who will keep up the energy of the party. We will also have fire dancers, limbo dancers who will test how low you can go, and Gombeys.”Mr Ramotar said the wide spectrum of DJs playing at the event is what makes this party different from others. In addition to the entertainment, there will also be several fun competitions for cash prizes on offer.A Cup Match lounge area will be available for cricket players and team members, where they can go to unwind after the game.Mr Ramotar said: “Every year after the game about 4,000 party revellers look for a safe place where they can have a complete party.“We hadn’t seen that [yet] so we came up with Cup Match Fever. We started out at Gombeys with about 600 people and peaked last year inside Fort St Catherine with about 1,500 patrons.“This party encompasses the true spirit of Cup Match as well as the revelling that goes on after the game. We try to keep it as local as possible with a bit of international flavour. After all who better know how to please Bermudians but our own DJs? “To ease the strain on finding parking in Dockyard, there will be a shuttle running every 15 minutes from Watford Bridge to Snorkel Park, starting at 8.30pm. There will also be occasional runs to the cricket club, Mr Ramotar said.Hundreds of promotional CDs, mixed by DJ Aztec and Miami’s own Champion Squad, will be available.Early bird tickets, $20, are available until Saturday; the price goes up to $30 after that. They are available at Kit N Caboodle, Jazzy Boutique, Mambo, The Garage, Fantastic 5 members and from event DJs.
