Rosewood Bermuda teams up with Masterworks to highlight local art

Rosewood Bermuda has partnered with the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda to showcase Bermuda’s artistic heritage.

The programme kicked off recently featuring Bermuda works by artists such as Danielle Frankenthal, E. McKnight Kauffer, James Toogood, Donald Meyer and Jason Bereswill.

“In turn, Rosewood will host Masterworks’ visiting guests, creating a creative symbiosis that immerses travellers in Bermudian artistry and storytelling,” the hotel said.

Patrick Graham, the managing director of Rosewood Bermuda said the Hamilton Parish hotel saw an opportunity to move art from the normal confines of a gallery into a more immersive experience.

“Masterworks have vaults under their main exhibition space full of artwork,” Mr Graham said. “They don’t have the space to display everything all year around.”

The hotel wanted to make their guests’ experiences more enriching and also spotlight the island’s vibrant creative community in a meaningful way.

“We are hoping for our collaboration with Masterworks to continue and become a rotational celebration of different artists and different Bermuda artworks,” Mr Graham said.

Rosewood Bermuda did not want the artwork to become a static display so plan to keep it changing it.

It is also available for people outside the hotel to enjoy.

“The general public are always welcome to come to the hotel,” he said.

“It saddens me that the perception of our hotel is that it is entirely exclusive. That is not the case and we welcome Bermudians any time to enjoy our restaurants and bars.”

Art will be displayed in the hallways, lobbies, corridors and lounges.

Rosewood Bermuda also want to expand into the hotel’s new racket sports centre.

“There is a new lounge over there, where we have deliberately left the wall’s blank for this partnership,” the general manager said. “We are then seeing how much further we can take it.”

The project is not just about displaying artwork. The hope is to eventually develop a new artist in residence programme, possibly even holding panel talks.
