Renowned painter donates original work to arts charity
Celebrated Bermudian artist Graham Foster has created and donated an original painting to the Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation to support the charity’s capital campaign. The artist, who produced the Hall of History mural at the Bermuda National Museum that was opened by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2009, said he was proud to support Kaleidoscope’s mission to expand access to arts education across Bermuda.
The painting, created specifically for the foundation’s fundraising efforts, will be auctioned as part of a special donor event taking place on Saturday, an immersive evening inspired by the surrealist world of Salvador Dalí.
Mr Foster, whose work is sought after by collectors locally and internationally and has had work featured in the Royal Gifts Exhibition at Buckingham Palace, said: “I’ve followed the progress of Kaleidoscope since its inception. They do a great job of teaching and inspiring the next generation of our young aspiring artists.
“As we enter this new age of artificial intelligence, it’s more important to than ever to support the arts and nurture that uniquely human urge to create.”
The donation comes as Kaleidoscope celebrates a key milestone in its capital campaign, having already raised $500,000 towards its $3 million target.
The foundation remains under threat, with the lease on its existing property in Devonshire expiring in June.
It is raising the funds towards purchasing and renovating a building to ensure appropriate classroom and outdoor spaces.
“The search is ongoing for the right permanent home for Kaleidoscope,” said Fiona Rodriguez-Roberts, the executive director of Kaleidoscope.
“We’re working towards creating a permanent space that will give students across Bermuda greater access to art lessons and creative opportunities.”
Those interested in participating online in the live auction of the original painting and silent auction, which includes other Bermudian artworks and experiences, may do so by contacting dani@kaf.bm. The deadline to submit bids is midnight on March 13.
