HSBC customers fed up with card issues

Some HSBC Bermuda customers are upset because they have not been able to use their debit cards in some locations (File photograph)

HSBC Bermuda customers are expressing frustration that their debit cards are not working as they expect. Cards have been rejected in some establishments and accepted in others.

One HSBC client said the card will not work on island, but functioned perfectly when he recently travelled.

Several people have had their cards replaced more than once within a short period of time.

Some took to the Facebook page, Maj’s List, to vent their frustration.

One client with a bad review for HSBC Bermuda said he had to obtain a third debit card in as many months. He said he was told not to use most of the bank’s automatic teller machines around the island because they were “fouling” the cards.

The customer said he was advised to use only two newly-installed city machines, but he discovered that one was out of order and the other was not dispensing cash.

Another wrote: “I got a new HSBC card in April of last year. Two months later it was faulty. The same card works in the HSBC machine here in the UK so it's not the cards, it’s the ATMs HSBC Bermuda have.”

One customer complained that the issues meant no ATM access on the weekend, or after the bank closes.
