Duncan Card joins Clarien Bank board
Duncan Card has been appointed as to the board of Clarien Bank, following James Gibbons’ decision to retire from the board.
Mr Gibbons will remain a director of Clarien Group Ltd, continuing his and the Gibbons family’s longstanding association with Clarien.
Mr Card, a Bermudian who previously practised commercial law in Canada and Bermuda, has been an adviser to clients in the banking, financial services and technology sectors for more than 30 years.
He is chief executive officer of The Advisory Group in Bermuda, which specialises in technology, governance, privacy, cybersecurity, outsourcing and resilience compliance services. Mr Card’s appointment is subject to receipt of non-objection from the Bermuda Monetary Authority, the financial-services regulator.
He has held a number of corporate directorships and holds the ICD. D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors in Canada, a professional qualification in corporate governance and board leadership.
Mr Card is also on the Governance Committee for the Institute of Directors (Bermuda), where he has been a member for almost 20 years.
Ian Truran, chief executive officer of Clarien Bank, said: “Duncan brings extensive commercial experience, grounded in many years of board and advisory experience, together with a deep understanding of technology, operational risk and transformation.
“These are increasingly important considerations for banks and wealth management businesses as our industry continues to evolve, and his perspective and experience will be highly valuable to Clarien. We are very pleased to welcome him to the board.”
Mr Card said: “I am delighted to join the board of Clarien Bank at an important time in the bank’s development. Clarien has a strong position in Bermuda and clear ambitions for the future in Cayman and other strategical important markets.
“I look forward to working with my fellow Directors and the management team and contributing my experience.”
Mr Gibbons is a senior Bermudian executive and board director whose career spans financial services, insurance and infrastructure. He has held senior executive positions within the Gibbons family group of companies and has served in a number of prominent corporate, government and community roles.
Mr Truran added: “James has played an important role in Clarien’s history and has made a significant contribution to the Bank over many years. I am personally grateful for his counsel, commitment and support.
“While he is retiring from the Clarien Bank Board, I am pleased that his involvement with Clarien will continue through his role as a director of Clarien Group.”
Mr Gibbons said: “Clarien has been an important part of my family's history, and I am so proud of all that the bank has achieved over the years. While the time is right for me to step down from the bank board, I look forward to continuing my involvement through the Clarien Group board. I wish Duncan every success in his new role and look forward to seeing Clarien continue to grow and evolve.”
