Bluebirds on course for title

Two-time defending champions Bluebirds kept on course for a third straight CellOne Elite City League championship after getting past Robin Hood Warriors at Somersfield Academy on Wednesday night.Led by Dion Bean’s 14 points, Bluebirds outscored Warriors 45-38 in an evenly contested affair in the night’s opening game.Jason Lowe scored a game-high 15 points which wasn’t enough to push Warriors across the line.Warriors put up a good fight before the reigning champions’ pedigree eventually shone through.Bluebirds are currently joint league leaders with Fort Knox Panthers who knocked off the Storm in Wednesday night’s second match.Kevin Stephens scored 16 points to lead Panthers to a 51-40 victory.Both teams made a sluggish start to the match before eventually finding their groove.Storm remained in contention until their rivals pulled away late in the second half to secure the win to keep pace with highflying Bluebirds.Akil Smith also scored 16 points in a losing cause for Storm.Panthers and Bluebirds will lock horns in tomorrow’s top match at Somersfield Academy.
