Bluebirds beat title rivals Panthers

Chris Crumpler scored a game high 31 points to lead Bluebirds to victory over Panthers at the weekend

Two-time defending CellOne Elite City League champions Bluebirds gained sole possession of pole position after handing fellow title contenders Fort Knox Panthers a third loss of the season.Bluebirds weathered some early pressure from their rivals before coming away with a 59-48 victory at Somersfield Academy on Saturday night.Chris Crumpler, who led all scorers, poured in 31 points for Bluebirds who improved their season record to 6-2 while Kevin Stevens replied with 14 in a losing for Panthers whose record slipped to 5-3.The remaining match saw Storm prevail 62-53 against Trinity Sound Lions in the absence of injured captain Steven Simons who is currently sidelined with a knee injury.A smaller Storm side relied upon their speed and experience to see off their opponents who remained in contention but ultimately came up short in the end.Storm were led by Akil Smith and Jason Simons who both scored 17 points while Billy Dunn replied with 15 for the Lions.CellOne Elite City League action continues on Wednesday night at Somersfield Academy.Lions face Panthers in the night’s opening clash between the big cats which gets underway at 6.30pm. Outback Outlaws and Robin Hood Warriors will then do battle in the nightcap to commence at 7.45pm.
