Ralph Scott flooded with offers by top colleges
Ralph Scott is spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where to pursue his college basketball career.
The budding star, who still has one more year of high school left at IMG Academy in Florida, has received offers from several NCAA Division I men's teams. But Scott is taking his time to weigh up his options and will only make his decision after visiting the American institutions.
According to the youngster’s posts on X (formerly Twitter), he has so far received offers from Mississippi State University, Louisiana State University, Wichita State University, Florida Atlantic University, University of South Florida and Arkansas State University.
“I have received six offers to university and interest from 20-plus universities,” the 17-year-old told The Royal Gazette.
“I will make my decision after I do my research and do my official visits. My ultimate goal is to play Division 1 college basketball and then play professionally in the NBA.”
Scott has had a busier summer than usual. Last month, he was part of the Basketball Without Borders Americas camp in El Salvador, where he was voted the male MVP.
He came home to play for the national under-17 team against Radiant Sun, a touring team from New Jersey. Last week, the 6ft 7in small forward was one of more than 80 blooming stars from all over the world at the NBA Academy Games, held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Scott played six matches for the NBA Academy Select Purple team, winning four and losing two of the matches.
His 77 points placed him sixth overall and the 12 blocks he made were the fifth best of the competition.
“This summer has for sure been my busiest one yet,” Scott said.
“I expected to spend more time at home, but opportunities presented themselves which couldn’t be passed up, namely Basketball Without Borders and NBA Academy Games.
“All these opportunities taught me to have confidence in myself and my abilities. I learnt how to be flexible and adapt quickly to new environments.
“These skills will help me to be more assured and self aware, so that I am more able to manage myself and be productive in any role or situation that I may face in the future.’”
Before heading to IMG Academy next month, Scott is playing in an Amateur Athletic Union tournament this week in Los Angeles. He is also training in Texas, which should serve as good preparation for his school season, which runs from November to early next year.
