BSX sees slight fall

Falls in the share prices of Bermuda Press (Holdings) Ltd and Somers Ltd sent The Royal Gazette/BSX Index lower last week.

Bermuda Press Holdings, which owns The Royal Gazette, as well as commercial printing, retail and real estate interests, suffered the largest dip, falling 50 cents, or 5.6 percent, to close on $8.50 on Friday on the trading of 7,267 shares on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.

Somers, the owner of Bermuda Commercial Bank, fell 40 cents, or 3.2 percent, as 5,000 of its shares changed hands.

Butterfield Bank was heavily traded, with 517,800 shares changing hands, but its share price remained unchanged on $1.49.

The Index closed down 2.98 points, or 0.24 percent, at 1,200.53. Volume for the three-day trading week, shortened by the Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays, topped 530,000 shares. Turnover was just over $881,000.
