Butterfield surges past $2

Butterfield Bank shares surged past $2 on Thursday in light, pre-holiday trading on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.
The bank rose six cents, or three percent to $2.05, on the trading of 1,500 shares.
Butterfield’s eight percent preference shares slid $5, or 0.4 percent, to $1,195 as eight shares traded.
The rise of the bank’s common shares drove The Royal Gazette/BSX Index up by 28.32 points, or two percent, to 1,445.19.
Volume of shares traded was 1,508 and turnover was $12,635.
The BSX Insurance Index also had a positive day, climbing 0.67 of a point, or 0.05 percent, to close on 1,454.67.
The BSX was closed yesterday for the Good Friday holiday.
