BAS shares climb 6.9%

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index rose by 0.4 per cent today, thanks to increases in the share prices of Butterfield Bank and Bermuda Aviation Services Ltd (BAS).

BAS was the biggest climber in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading, gaining 19 cents, or 6.9 per cent, to close the day on $2.95, as 6,000 shares changed hands.

Butterfield climbed one cent, or 0.5 per cent, to $2, as 50,000 shares traded. The bank’s 8 per cent-yielding preference shares fell by one cent to close on $1,150, as 72 shares changed hands.

The Index rose 5.54 points to 1,373.49. Trading volume totalled 56,082 shares and turnover was $200,587.78.

The BSX Insurance Index advanced 10.06 points, or 0.64 per cent to close on 1,579.97.
