Butterfield shares rebound

Butterfield Bank: shares rose 6.3 per cent to recoup most of Tuesday's fall

Butterfield Bank shares surged 6.3 per cent today to lead The Royal Gazette/BSX Index higher.

The bank’s stock rose 10 cents — regaining the bulk of the 15 cents it lost in Tuesday’s trading — to close on $1.70 as 16,017 of its shares changed hands.

A total of 79,103 shares worth about $323,311 yesterday traded on the Bermuda Stock Exchange.

Insurance firm Argus dropped 18 cents, or 4.7 per cent, to $3.67 after 56,786 shares traded.

Fellow insurer BF&M was down 4 cents, or 0.2 per cent, after 1,500 shares changed hands.

Somers Ltd was unchanged at $13 after 4,800 shares traded.

The index closed up 40.29 points, or 3.5 per cent, at 1,191.07.

The BSX Insurance Index was up 8.95 points, or 0.54 per cent, at 1,654.36.
