Butterfield drives BSX Index 2% higher

BSX: shares of Butterfield and BF&M gained last week, while Somers fell

Butterfield Bank shares rose more than 3 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading last week.

The bank gained a dollar to close on $33.75, as 15,695 shares traded.

The only other stock to gain was BF&M Ltd, with the insurer gaining 10 cents, or 0.5 per cent, to close on $20.60 as 1,300 of its shares changed hands.

Somers Ltd, owner of Bermuda Commercial Bank, fell on low volume, dipping 50 cents, or 3.6 per cent, to close on $13.25.

One Communications Ltd was the most actively traded company last week, but it remained unchanged on $2.50 as 21,700 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index gained 42.42 points, or 2.08 per cent for the week, and closed at 2,034.19.

Trading volume was just shy of 39,000 shares, while turnover topped $614,500.
