Butterfield Bank shares plunged 6.6 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading today.

The bank fell $2.45 to close on $34.55 as 8,160 shares changed hands.

On Wall Street, Butterfield’s New York Stock Exchange-listed shares held up better, falling 33 cents, or 0.9 per cent, to close on $35.79.

The bank was the only stock to trade on the BSX and its fall was enough to drive a tumble of 110.19 points, or 5.05 per cent, for The Royal Gazette/BSX Index, which closed on 2,073.17.

The BSX Insurance Index dipped 1.97 points, or 0.1 per cent, to close on 1,892.97.
