Butterfield Bank shares rose 1.6 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The bank gained 50 cents to close on $31 as 2,603 shares changed hands.

In New York, Butterfield’s US-listed shares also advanced, gaining 25 cents, or 0.8 per cent, to close on $31.32.

Butterfield was the only stock to trade on the BSX and its gains led to a gain of 22.49 points, or 1.16 per cent, for The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

The BSX Insurance Index gained 6.51 points, or 0.44 per cent, to close the day on 1,478.54.
