The RG/BSX Index rose 41.97 points, or 1.51 per cent, to 2,812.85 today, based in part on the trading of 3,669 shares of Butterfield Bank.
The company rose 75 cents (1.8 per cent) to close at $42.50.
On the New York Stock Exchange, Butterfield Bank fell 36 cents or 0.84 per cent to $42.46, with 144,655 shares changing hands.
