Andre Lambe made a sensational start to life in the paid ranks after a first-round stoppage of fellow debutant Mat Hinchey at the Fairmont Southampton on Saturday night.The southpaw’s first punch as a professional, a razor-sharp right hook, Lambe’s most lethal weapon, sent Hinchey careering across the ring and touching the canvas before being given a standing eight count. A second standing eight count followed for the Canadian after powerful two-punch combination from Lambe, who put his opponent out of his misery with another right hook that staggered him against the ropes, prompting Hinchey’s coach to throw in the towel after 2min 20sec.There will be much tougher nights ahead of Lambe, with Hinchey primarily a mixed martial arts fighter, however, the Bermudian could not have hoped for a better start to his pro career.“That’s the best debut you can ask for, stopping [your opponent] in the first round,” said the 24-year-old. “I wasn’t even expecting to drop him with that shot. I was going out there with a game plan and my reactions just came on. “After I knocked him down, I took my time and set up some other shots because I didn’t want to rush it. I was just trying to stay composed and was trying to land the right shots because in future fights I want to stay composed.”Lambe, who won 11 of his 17 bouts as an amateur, said he was disappointed the bout did not last longer and wants a swift return to the ring.“I’m feeling phenomenal, although I’m a little disappointed that I wasn’t able to do a bit more,” said Lambe, who represents Forty Rego’s Gym.“I’m excited with the result and hopefully I can build on what I’ve done today.“I hope to get no less than four fights this year and if I can get more than that, then great. I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible as I’m in great shape. I just want to get these early fights out of the way so I can move up the ranks and become a [title] contender.”
