Teresa Perozzi and Tori Nelson have signed on the dotted line to face off in a rematch for the vacant WBC middleweight belt, The Royal Gazette can confirm. Both parties have agreed to fight at Berkeley School Gym in February 2, 2013, for the vacant belt with the winner to pocket more than $10,000.“We are on for February 2 in a rematch for the WBC middleweight championship of the world and it will be Teresa versus Tori,” an event organiser said yesterday.Perozzi and the unbeaten Nelson battled to draw in the first meeting between the pair at October’s ‘All or Nothing’ WBC & WBA middleweight unification championship bout at Fairmont Southampton. Judges Lynn Carter (USA) and Claude Paquette (Canada) both scored the fight 95-95 while local judge Vic Richmond scored it 98-93 in Perozzi’s favour. The outcome enabled Perozzi to retain the WBA belt while the WBC belt, once held by Nelson, remains up for grabs.Neither Perozzi’s WBA middleweight belt nor Nelson’s WIBA middleweight belt will be on the line at next February’s championship bout. However, both fighters could still end up vacating their existing titles should they lose the upcoming WBC championship bout.“Teresa will keep her WBA middleweight belt and Tori will keep her WIBA middleweight belt but the big one is the WBC which is bigger than both,” the event organiser noted.“What’s going to happen is that whoever loses their other title will most likely get vacated too so it’s really still is all or nothing for either opponent. They are in a title match and if they lose they will also lose the title they hold because it will be like they are not worthy of holding their existing title.”Asked about the purse, the organiser said: “The purse is much more than it was in October . . . it’s between $10,000 and $20,000.”Perozzi boasts a pro record of 8-4-2 while Nelson’s stands at 6-0-2.Next February’s fight will consist of ten rounds and likely be refereed by top American official Steve Smoger who was in charge of the first match between the two combatants earlier this year which both camps felt they had won after the dust had settled. The event will also consist of between eight and ten amateur boxing and kickboxing bouts on the undercard.“We may not do as much kickboxing because we are getting a lot of boxing interest now,” the organiser said. “The kickboxers are kind of happy too because they can now take a break.”Interested amateur boxers are asked to contact greg.fraser@onsemi.com or call 504-4734 for further details.
