Argentinian Abregu pulls out of Lambe bout
Amateur lightweight boxer Diego Abregu has withdrawn from this weekend’s Teacher’s Rugby Fight Night 15 at Berkeley Institute Gym.
The Argentinian was scheduled to fight against local Andre Lambe in a three round bout.
However, an event spokesperson confirmed yesterday that Abregu has pulled out due to a concussion he suffered while sparring in the ring ahead of his next fight.
Lambe will instead square off against Abregu’s replacement Christopher Gooch who hails from Ashburn, Virginia.
It is understood that the injured Abregu may still travel to the Island to support his brother Matthew who will take on local unbeaten amateur junior middleweight Nikki Bascome during Saturday’s Fight Night.
The upcoming event consists of nine amateur bouts and the main professional event that will pit Bermuda’s Teresa Perozzi against American Tori Nelson in a rematch for the vacant WBC middleweight belt.
The two female boxers battled in a draw in last October’s WBA and WBC unifying championship bout at Fairmont Southampton.
World renowned referee Steve Smoger will officiate the WBC championship bout between Perozzi and Nelson.
