Morris is bidding to become a world champion

Deondre Morris is hoping to make history in Toronto this month.

The experienced Muay Thai fighter has accepted an invitation to contest for Destiny Fight Production’s super-middleweight world championship title against an opponent yet to be confirmed.

The occasion will mark Morris’s first appearance in an international full Muay Thai rules title bout.

Morris, the Bermuda Karate Association’s head coach, received the invite after clinching the bronze medal in the Class A Division at the Thai Boxing Association-Sanctioning Authority’s World Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, in June.

“After seeing my performances in the TBASA competition, I received the invitation to fight for this title from Destiny,” Morris said.

“At first I wasn’t sure, but it didn’t take long for me to say yes.

“I realised what an honour it will be to represent Bermuda’s growing Muay Thai community. I want to help the knowledge of the art grow here in Bermuda.”

Should he be successful in his bid, Morris will become Bermuda’s first Class A Muay Thai champion.

“I’ll be representing Bermuda in an internationally recognised headlining bout. I’m determined to take full advantage,” Morris said.

“I have the opportunity to become Bermuda’s first class A World Champion.”

The event takes place on December 17 at the Woodbine Racetrack & Casino. The previous event put on by Destiny Fight Production attracted over 1,000 spectators.

“I’m really excited to test my skills in front of this audience,” Morris said.

“I do believe I belong at this level, I haven’t trained at this intensity for all of these years to not earn this.”

Morris will be accompanied on the trip by Bermuda Karate Organisation owners Sensei Skipper and Kristina Ingham.

As a registered charity, the Bermuda Karate Organisation is seeking donors to help cover Morris’s expenses to participate in the upcoming event.
