Nikki Bascome hit by late setback with forced change of opponent

Adjustments made: Nikki Bascome will now be facing off against Dylan Rushton after his original opponent Waseem El Sinawi was forced to pull out

Nikki Bascome has been forced to tweak preparations for his upcoming bout that will headline the Epic Entertainment Fight Night Champion fight card at The Shed, in Dockyard, tomorrow night.

The 27-year-old orthodox fighter was originally scheduled to do battle with Canadian Waseem El Sinawi in a welterweight bout.

However, Bascome said in an article published on Bernews, that El Sinawi has been replaced by compatriot Dylan Rushton, who will be moving up a weight class to welterweight, having won four and drawn three of his previous 18 professional outings.

Despite the late setback, Bascome has already made the necessary tweaks to his preparation to face Rushton, whom he is not underestimating.

“We’ve had to make a few adjustments because my opponent has changed,” Bascome told Bernews. “I’ve seen a bit of his last fight [against Tyler Pouli].

“He’s a very active fighter, a pressure fighter.

“I don’t judge people off their record. I’m not underestimating him.

“I’m prepared for anybody. I can adjust, adapt, and feel sharp, focused and alert.”The Royal Gazette contacted event organiser Teiko Furbert who has yet to comment, while Bascome has yet to respond to a request for comment.

Bascome’s compatriot, Andre Lambe, who is scheduled to fight on the undercard, revealed that he also had his opponent replaced after testing positive for coronavirus.

The 26-year-old southpaw is set to face off with Jose Ceja, of the United States, in a four-round welterweight bout.

Lambe is going in to the bout with an unblemished 2-0 record since turning professional.
