Andre Lambe steps into ring to face toughest challenge
Andre Lambe is just hours away from the biggest fight in his career.
Lambe has travelled to Galveston, Texas, to headline the El Tigre Promotions card in his first eight-round bout, with his welterweight opponent Kendo Casteneda ranked inside the top 100 in the United States.
With his training completed and game plan settled in his mind, Lambe is expecting Casteneda to fly at him for the first few rounds but is confident that his training will help him in the later stages.
“It will be a surprise if he doesn’t come out aggressive,” Lambe said.
“He has no other choice than to do that but if he does then I can see me starting to close down the fight between rounds six and eight. That will probably be when I start putting things together.”
Lambe says that his training camp has been the best of his career and after experiencing a few problems at the scales in advance of recent fights, he is pleased to report that there are no such problems this time
“I’m doing great and the camp has been really good,” Lambe said.
“In my last few fights I struggled to make the weight and missed it a few times. But this time around we had a really good camp and I’m on weight, so I’m happy with that. The game plan is put together and we’re now just looking forward to Saturday night.”
While Lambe is expecting a number of Bermudians at ringside cheering him on, he is hopeful that those remaining on island will make it to sports bar GameOn for a watch party.
Situated on Bermudiana Road in Hamilton, the venue will be streaming all nine professional fights on the card with local hero Lambe scheduled to compete in the main event around midnight Bermuda time.
“GameOn, in collaboration with Reference Point Coaching, have been helping me,” Lambe said.
“They have been my main sponsors for this fight and I would love to get people to go there and support them as much as they have supported me.
“The stream they are putting on is going to be a really good stream and there is going to be plenty of food, drinks and music, so it’s going to be nice, and I just hope that I can make everybody watching proud.”
