Adrian Roach gets new date for professional debut
A few days after his professional debut was rained out at Dockyard, Adrian Roach is thrilled that the bout is back on the cards.
Roach and Canadian Brent Coxworthy will trade leather on July 12 at The Shed with the venue guaranteed to provide shelter from the rain. The welterweight fight is a curtain-raiser to the contest between Saundre “Dash” Simmons and Jamaican Ian “Impact” Darby.
“Teiko Furbert from Epic Entertainment was able to secure The Shed as the venue and got everybody to agree on new contracts,” Roach told The Royal Gazette.
“Dash and I are fighting the same opponents. The only difference is that it will be a whole new undercard that's most likely to feature the next generation of boxers on the island.
“Of course my initial reaction on Saturday was disappointment, but this now gives me a glimmer of hope. Credit to Epic Entertainment, the organisers of the event for making it happen in quick succession.
“The most exciting part for me is getting back into training and making sure that I’m ready for next weekend.
Roach encouraged his fans to keep their tickets for the abandoned event while waiting for communication from the promoters.
“People should keep their tickets because there’s more details to come,” the 23-year-old said.
“My fans will be able to see me make my professional debut at home. My other fights being put together by my team are overseas.”
Meanwhile, in an Instagram post, the North Carolina-based Simmons, who is seeking to extend his flawless record (7-0) has declared that he will be heading back to the island soon.
“I’ll be back in Bermuda to handle business,” the light-heavyweight boxer said.
“Nobody over here is scared of a fight. Setbacks make greater comebacks and I’ve been hawking my competition soon.
“Will make an official announcement soon. Thanks for your patience, hold on to your tickets or live streaming receipts for me.”
